Realizability of Arbitrary Local Mass Matrices in Single-Point Rigid Body Collisions
نویسندگان
چکیده
The 3 × 3 local mass matrix fully characterizes a pair of colliding “rigid” bodies for many purposes. We prove here that arbitrary 3 × 3, symmetric positive definite matrices have physical realizations as local mass matrices for collisions of two bodies with finite dimensions and inertia. General collision models thus must be able to handle all such matrices.

Global Stabilization of Attitude Dynamics: SDRE-based Control Laws
The State-Dependant Riccati Equation method has been frequently used to design suboptimal controllers applied to nonlinear dynamic systems. Different methods for local stability analysis of SDRE controlled systems of order greater than two such as the attitude dynamics of a general rigid body have been extended in literature; however, it is still difficult to show global stability properties of...
متن کاملMass Properties Identification of a Rigid Body Using Modal Analysis
In performing vibration analysis of the car engine on the engine support, it is necessary to know the mass properties of the engine including mass, position of the center of mass and mass inertia moments. Because the car engine has a relatively complex geometric shape and is composed of different components with different densities, determining its mass properties faces many challenges. There a...
متن کاملA New Algebraic Rigid Body Collision Law Based On Impulse Space Considerations
We present a geometric representation of the set of 3D rigid body collisional impulses that are reasonably permissible by the combination of non-negative post-collision separation rate, non-negative collisional compression impulse, non-negative energy dissipation and the Coulomb friction inequality. The construction is presented for a variety of special collisional situations involving special ...
متن کاملDynamical Behavior of a Rigid Body with One Fixed Point (Gyroscope). Basic Concepts and Results. Open Problems: a Review
The study of the dynamic behavior of a rigid body with one fixed point (gyroscope) has a long history. A number of famous mathematicians and mechanical engineers have devoted enormous time and effort to clarify the role of dynamic effects on its movement (behavior) – stable, periodic, quasi-periodic or chaotic. The main objectives of this review are: 1) to outline the characteristic features of...
متن کاملUnbiased rotational moves for rigid-body dynamics.
We introduce an unbiased protocol for performing rotational moves in rigid-body dynamics simulations. This approach-based on the analytic solution for the rotational equations of motion for an orthogonal coordinate system at constant angular velocity-removes deficiencies that have been largely ignored in Brownian dynamics simulations, namely errors for finite rotations that result from applying...
